It’s not often a horse dropping from $40,000 to $20,000 claiming company wins and returns $44.60, but this certain trainer was able to pull this off not too long ago.  The specific horse was claimed for $10,000, had passed class along with finishing 3rd in a stakes race when he was younger.  This horse had run 2nd and 4th versus similar competition; however, the crafty trainer suddenly jumped the horse to the $40,000 plateau on grass.  This specific horse ran 6th of 9, beaten only 6 lengths.  To set this big score up, this trainer put a series of solid drills into the horse. . .35 3/5; 1:27 4/5; 59 3/5; 34 3/5; and capped it all off with a 59 flat, five days before the race.  This specific final drill was the 4th fastest of 45 workouts that morning at the track.  With all the pieces of the puzzle in place, the trainer then dropped the horse in for $20,000 and got an additional 5lb weight break by hiring the top apprentice jockey at the track.  The horse, who liked to run mid-pack early, was in a 10 horse field, loaded with early speed.  The result was a juicy $44.60 with mutual while the $2.00 exacta paid $468.20, $2.00 quinellas paid $211.60 and the $2.00 trifecta paid a handsome $2,563.00.
